Rising up like a green island amongst the sweet Marchigiane hills, Gradara. Although situated some 142 meters above sea level you can still smell the salty sea air as it is only 3km from the coast. Like something out of a fable, this antique location is steeped in history and legend like that of Paolo and Francesca, sung to us by Dante, Petrarca, Boccaccio and D'Annunzio.

The Caves of Frasassi.
Situated in the gorge of the same name, the caves are part of a complex subterranean system that extends for approximately 18 kilometers within the confines of the regional park Gola della Rossa e di Fracassi, a green oasis rich in history and art.
Discovered in 1971 and opened to the public in 1974, these spectacular cavities have already had over ten million visitors. In an hours silent trekking one can admire nature's involuntary works of art, valorized by the clever positioning of the internal lighting by scenographer Cesarini from Senigallia.
Small lakes, inlayed stalactites, gleaming stalagmites and underground rooms with crystal and alabaster arabesques with fantastic names: the majestic Ancona Abyss, the Room of the Two Hundred, the Grand Canyon, the Room of Candles, the White Room, the Room of the Bear and the Infinity Room.
Each group of visitors is made up of a maximum of 70 people and accompanied by professional guides on site.
The cement walkway is 1500 meters long and covered with a substance to prevent slipping.
The temperature inside the caves is 14°C and so one should pack a jumper for the trip.
This excursion is not recommended for those suffering from heart complaints.
