Dr. Gene A. Spiller has an MS and a PhD in nutrition from the University of California, Berkeley, a doctorate from the University of Milan (Italy) and did additional extensive studies at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS). a fellow of the American College of Nutrition and a member of the American Society for Clinical Nutrition and of other professional societies.
Among the world leading expert on use of dietary fiber, nuts and seeds in human nutrition, He has chaired symposia on fiber and other nutrients at professional nutrition meetings. He is the editor of scientific books on fiber, the first one published in 1975 when fiber was beginning to find the proper place in nutrition. Following that book he edited three edition of the CRC Handbook of Fiber in Human Nutrition, from 1982 to 2001 and is the author of many other scientific and popular books on nutrition.
Recent popular books include What's with Fiber (2005), Diagnosis: Heart Disease, Ancient Food for the New Millennium . His professional book include 3 editions of Hand Book of Dietary Fiber, Caffeine, Nutritional Pharmacology and many others.
He is the director and founder of the Sphera Foundation (http://www.sphera.org) and of the Health Research and Studies Center in Los Altos California, both organizations involved in human nutrition studies, writing of popular and scientific books and production of educational videos for school. He has over 100 papers and abstract in scientific journals.
